The American and Canadian models have been more accurate, and both predict cool breezes and shallow fog over San Francisco Bay in their weekend forecasts. The European model has been struggling with its forecasts, missing the fog and cool winds in San Francisco earlier in the week. “The main challenges surround some of the near-coastal areas and to what extent the marine layer compresses,” wrote Sean Miller, a lead meteorologist at the National Weather Service Bay Area and Monterey office. The models predict that excessive heat will raise temperatures to the mid-90s and low 100s across the inland valleys of the Bay Area, but they disagree over how hot it could get on the bayside. Weather models agree with a high degree of confidence that most of the Bay Area will be locked into a heat wave that’s spreading triple-digit heat this weekend, from the deserts of Northern Mexico to much of the Western U.S.
